September Newsletter

September 2016
Dear Families,

The beginning of the school year can be full of excitement, nerves and uncertainty for many students. In order to help make the transition into first grade more comfortable for the children we will be spending a lot of time in class working on “getting to know you” and “all about me” activities. These activities are geared to help build a strong sense of community amongst the students and teachers.

Along with strengthening our classroom relationships the students will be engaged in a science curriculum highlighting the lifecycle of insects and monarch butterflies. If any of you happen to stumble upon a monarch caterpillar we would love to have the opportunity to see the life cycle firsthand. Our classroom has a butterfly home already; the only thing we are missing is a monarch caterpillar, or two, and some delicious milkweed. Please contact me or send the caterpillar and milkweed to school in a breathable container with your child. The children benefit greatly from this hands-on learning and their excitement in the lifecycle is truly contagious!

Below are some important dates to be aware of this month.

Friday, Sept. 2 – No School
Monday, Sept. 5 – No School
Wednesday, Sept. 21 – Early Release 12:45 Dismissal
Thursday, Sept. 22 – Open House Parent Night 6:00-7:30
Tuesday, Sept. 27 – Field Trip to Coppal House Farm
Friday, Sept. 30 – Picture Day J

I look forward to having the opportunity to meet with you at our Open House night to discuss our day-to-day routines and some of the things your child will be learning this year!

Ms. Taylor
